Cotton leheriya top with tie-back
Leheriya is dyed by rolling cloth on the diagonal and binding it before it ever meets colour. What comes out is never quite identical twice — the stripe wavers, catches, breaks. We put it on a lightweight cotton and cut it short, with a square neck, small puff sleeves and an open back that ties with a single dori.
Wear it with white trousers and forget about it. It's the piece that goes into the bag for the weekend and comes out of it wrinkled and still right.

Hand wash cold, separately the first time. Line dry in shade. The dye softens with wear; it's meant to.

Hand-loomed in Madhya Pradesh. Undyed ivory churidar from a cooperative in Varanasi.
